Hi Ruvies

its your fault
its my fault
why does anyone have to be at fault
even perfection has faults

life is too short to place the blame
to yell or fight with someone so special and full of life
the words just aren't write
i just can't right

its easy to be selfish
claiming to be selfless
when you have no sense of self
without you I am nothing

A Diamond is Forever

when the story works
they break their backs
people are killed

price fixing keeps the margins healthy
and makes the market sick at both ends
was it enough? when will it be enough?

the blood of a child was spilled
its stored inside this little rock
that will last forever

Do You Believe?

equal rights
more time
listen to me
listen to me

love god
hate men
kill kill kill
as his son wants

the earth is round
as is that noose
now hang him
for suggesting such heresy

help is a word with many meanings
but the helper is rarely wrong
while pushing their worldview

Is God Real?

U2's Staring at the Sun is probably my favorite song of theirs.

Summer stretching on the grass
Summer dresses pass
In the shade of a willow tree
Creeps a crawling over me
Over me and over you
Stuck together with God's glue
It's going to get stickier too

It's been a long hot summer
Let's get under cover
Don't try too hard to think
Don't think at all

I'm not the only one
Staring at the sun
Afraid of what you'll find
If you took a look inside
I'm not just deaf and dumb
Staring at the sun
Not the only one
Who's happy to go blind

There's an insect in your ear
If you scratch it won't disappear
It's gonna itch and burn and sting
You want to see what the scratching brings
Waves that leave me out of reach
Breaking on your back like a beach
Will we ever live in peace?

'Cause those that can't do
Often have to
And those that can't do
Often have to preach

To the ones
Staring at the sun
Afraid of what you'd find
If you took a look inside
Not just deaf and dumb
I'm staring at the sun
I'm not the only one
Who'd rather go blind

Intransigence is all around
Military still in town
Armour plated suits and ties
Daddy just won't say goodbye
Referee won't blow the whistle
God is good but will He listen
I'm nearly great
But there's something missing

I left it in the duty free area
But you never really belonged to me

You're not the only one
Staring at the sun
Afraid of what you'd find
You step back inside
Not sucking on my thumb
I'm staring at the sun
I'm not the only one
Who's happy to go blind

Its All for Sale

In an article about Gregory Nickerson, Harpers notes how the US tax code is for sale:

Supporters of the American Jobs Creation Act had argued that with all their tax savings, the companies that benefited would rush out and hire lots of new workers. But it didn't turn out that way. “One thing is clear,” Business Week reported in August of 2005. “The money piling in from abroad as the result of the Jobs Creation Act has done little to actually spur hiring. In fact, six of the 10 companies repatriating the biggest totals are axing workers in the U.S. They include HP [Hewlett Packard], which announced July 19 that it would cut its head count by 14,500 in the U.S.”

The absurdity of the $140 billion corporate tax break titled the American Jobs Creation Act is not just that it had the exact opposite effect of its name, the true absurdity stems from the fact that it lobbyists only had to pay politicians about $50,000 to push the bogus bill through congress.

like a cartoon character
he ate too much and
stared at a screen with greed
cluelessly collecting commodities

hoping to one day become rich
but he wasted too much
gained too much
and time is too short

he looked over at the one who snored
and realized his treasure is already here

Its all a game

I get frustrated when it comes time to pay taxes. Not because I believe that I am above paying them, but because it reminds me of

  • how gamed everything is (leading radio companies use payola, the WSJ sells advertorials, and colleges bogusly recommend best loan providers for kickbacks)
  • how people go to jail without cause (non violent drug users, and people like my sister)
  • that I am writing checks to drop bombs on people to kill them so we increase the profit margins of oil companies and defense contractors

And it all makes me feel a little bit ill.

How Could You Think That?

when seeing things in a different light / with more layers it is easy to see how that can have a more vivid effect.

one might argue that some people are not over-reactive so much as many people are under-reactive due to living without much passion, limited contextual perspective, and no creative outlets

Kind Generous Fake Gentleman

I am told that I am loved because I am not what is expected. Rather than fitting the mold I am somewhat real....and that is much better than behaving like I should.

I think I mostly enjoy when I do good with golf because it makes my lover happy. Today she told me that I should get good at short puts before trying long ones. So I putted from ~ 30 feet, and it hit the pole... it would have went in if the pole was not there :)

Bicycle Riding

I went riding bicycles with the girlfriend today. We had lots of fun, but I was powerslide braking the bike and blew up a tire. So to recap our sports adventures:

  • biking - blew up a tire
  • kayaking - fell in the water within 5 minutes
  • golf - drive almost as far as pros can, but then sometimes miss really really really bad
  • tennis - serve like a professional, but threw my back out

I am sure there a couple other good ones but I just can't think of them.

I Know I R

a costume was needed to create a stir
but the attention was short lived
they couldn't see past the costume

he took another approach
but language was too chopped to work with
and time was too short

they could consume nothing but bite sized bits
each sounded convenient and true
a self fulfilling prophecy never lies
