Get a Job You Never Want

I was in the US navy. My existance as a nuclear reactor operator made me suicidally depressed. When I got out I got another job. I was a manager at an inventory company and had to work about 70 hours a week (anything over 40 was charity).

I am so disguisted with corporate america that I will never again work for a corporation. I posted my resume stating this. When I was looking for my resume I searched for Corporate Greed and found a 1 result.

Oddly enough it was not the person who responded to my resume.

Their email stated "FAST TRACK TO MANAGEMENT

HELPING SENIOR CITIZENS + Smithfield, RI ... sounds like a dream job come true :D I actually went to school there: Bryant College, Smithfield, RI ... no joke.

"sounds like a dream job"

I do not believe in anything. I thank the us navy for destroying my concepts of reality, humility, humanity, and employment.

I also want to send a special thanks out to CDR Sykora for destroying my work records prior to my departure.

I bet he would not have done that if he knew I was going to become an internet marketer.

I got the same email. Sounds like a scam.

Is this really a scam or not ?
What was their reply?

ATT: "JR Longo" I received your e-mail dated Oct 28, 2004 offering posititions in sales, marketing. and managment. I am responding to job # 3071 Enclosed you will find the infomation you requested: Donald Gill 2161 N. 39th St. Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53208 Ph.# 414-442-6049 Morning hours are the best time to contact me to schedule an interview.

Got the same email from monster.com's opportunity notification service. After a little research with Google, I gather that they are hunting for wannabe insurance agents. (search Google for: "Bankers Life and Casualty" Chantilly)

I fully agree with Aaron Wall's November 16 post on the top of this page, btw.

I got the same email from CareerBuilder. I don't understand though, why do people post their reply here to this posting board?

Cinderella on March 8, 2005 2:05 PM

I agree that it is automated becuase i posted my resume and it had bank in the title on careerbuilder.com and less than 12 hours later i got this thing in the email.

so has anyone talked to them and applied?

is it a legit opportunity?

if it was legit they would not be spamming people

I have received this email multiple times during the past 6 months and I believe it is bogus. I am seeking a position in the Information Technology industry and the terms: banking, finances, sales, etc....are not on my resume. They are searching for anyone who is desperate enough to reply.

I received the same email, and I replied and they called me for an interview.

derrick payton on July 8, 2005 9:16 AM

Irec.d this as well...don't know what it's about. I will keep you posted.

I received it also. I have my resume posted several places. I though maybe it was bogus also, so I googled the address and found this message board. Thanks to all. Whenever job descriptions state "no door to door sales" or the like, it is a scam. I am not going to respond-not that desperate at this time.

Aaron,

I just got the same email you posted. It's two and a half years later!

Thanks for blogging about this, you saved me a lot of wasted time dealing with these people. I sent a reply:

"Which company do you represent, please? My contact info can be found on my resume."

I included a link to this website in the reply.

I just recieved the same email after making my resume active on careerbuilder. They offered a career in sales, service or management to the right person regardless of experience. I am not interested in any of those areas. Thnaks for making this board available, it saved me some time and aggravation. Hopefully it may help someone else also.

I have received over 30 of these "job offers" from "JR Longo" over the last several months "because of [my] active resume posting on CareerBuilder". They do not include a "remove" link and ignore repeated requests to remove your address from their mailing list. About a year ago they were sending out a different version of the spam. In the older mails, they mentioned that you would be working with Medicare recipients "explaining benefits" to them (good luck!). The salary they mentioned in those mails was around $40,000/year, not the outrageous "$200,000+" they're claiming now, with no mention of Medicare. I've complained repeatedly to CareerBuilder with no success. Apparently they're in on the scam. At the very least, they're selling "JR Longo" their email listings. I have seen postings on other comment boards claiming that this company is scam city; all old leads, no money, plus they want your banking information. Sounds like something the FTC might want to hear about.....

Joe

Thank you all for this side, all warnings. I received many e-mails from "JR Longo" too and all of them were sent from CareerBuilder, and all of them offered financial service jobs. Because it is not first e-mail of that type, I am VERY careful not to reply on an impulse (such a good opportunity). If the company is offering a lot without reviling their name, business type, telephones, web sides, I DO NOT give them my data either. Thank all of you for voicing for concerns, that helps a lot
Joann

I would love to have with your company so please call me ASAP 412-628-9896

I got like 12 messages from not only JR LONGO, but now from Paula Smith.

So, I have decide to post a complaint on RIPOFFREPORT.COM

I think you guys should post your complaints there too!

Daniel Westrick on February 7, 2006 5:44 PM

It's February 17th, 2006 and I'm still getting this same crap. My e-mail claims "Our associate managers earn $60,000 to $100,000 per year - with our top performing managers earning $200,000+." and has a return address of BankersCareers6@msn.com. I've complained to CareerBuilder about five times now but haven't seen a reply..

--the info sounds the same just better organized now and this is july 06. i was happy somebody ofund my resume but now... nevermind back to the books lol thanks guys

I got the email from Tara Cueva. It states verbatim what you guys have been saying. Do you know of anyone who has taken the job?

Okay, I have an "interview" with Bankers tomorrow. They've confirmed three times. I was researching the company when I came across this blog. I'm thinking I'll go, just for the interview experience- learn what I can about the "opportunity and/or scam" - hopefully will bring some clarity to this...

Ok, For those of you that truly want an opportunity, take the chance. I too received the same thing from monster regarding Bankers Life. I had 2 interviews, then a 3rd one on one. I got the job and have started training. It isn't a scam as some of you might think, and the boss has provided information of use, actual payroll info on bonus checks that are cut quarterly. There was a check that i saw in the amount of $200,000. That was on an employee in his first year and just on one quarterly payment. This boss just promoted a guy that has only been selling for 4 months. Is it a dream come true???? Perhaps for those of you that are willing to work hard. It isn't going to be easy thats for sure. I studied for 3 weeks just to pass the insurance exam, that was brutal, the training materials are never ending. However, I think if you sell well, you'll make a lot of money.

Google search popped up some interesting sites about this company, including numerous judicial fines in regards to this company prying open loopholes and scamming numerous clients with bogus or inadequately disclosed information that resulted in the clients recieving financial harm. One Maine judge fined this company over $400,000.00 and more counts in other states appear to be pending, as well as court ordered training of sales associates in regards to area and Federal laws regarding a variety of insurance topics. It boils down to insurance SALES, with SENIOR CITIZENS as the preferred targets. My resume had no mention of insurance in it at all. My line is more security or managerial oriented. Granted, insurance is a valid employment, but for a company with so many suits and fines against it? I cannot believe that the sales associates do not get legally " tagged" since they have arranged for those policy sales. Perhaps the alleged salary and benefits are for paying for the lawyers to represent us should we choose to work there?

I was confirming my 2nd interview on Wednesday the 20th day of December.I was interested in seeing if this job is phone service and or door to door.

Thank You,
Sincerely, Rhonda Vierra

This is a VERY LEGIT job opportunity. I have worked for Bankers Life and Casualty for about 6 months now and love going to work. Bankers Life and Casualty is a well established company that is always looking for motivated agents. If you study the nationwide turnover rate for the insurance industry as a whole, you will see why they recruit as much as they do. Its not for everyone but it is not a scam in any way shape or form. They money and the opportunities are real.

Bankers Life & Casualty Co. is a legitimate company. It is a subsidiary of Conseco Insurance which is a Fortune 500 company with over $4 Billion in revenues. Bankers recruits anyone interested in creating their own destiny. It is 100% commission sales and is not for everyone - granted. However, there are alot of people making alot of money as insurance agents!

My brother has been working for this company for many months now at a loss, and it is shocking how cult-like the company is. They have all kinds of pep talks, they have him listen to tapes when he isn't working, he works 80 hour weeks, and all for less than he pays for rent. They dangle all kinds of numbers in front of you but if you investigate, I believe this company is founded on the backs of ambitious young men like my brother who sell tons of policies for a few months and then have to quit so they can get another job that pays them money. Then the managers get all of the proceeds from the hard work done. I hope my brother gets a sugar momma or something because he has taken all of the propaganda to heart hook, line, and sinker, and is now broke but working 80-hour weeks.

Obviously the spam is still alive and well! I received my invite, that matches many above, on Christmas Eve after activating my resume on Monster 2 days ago. Tells me it's an automated email. The link to learm more about the position didn't work so I Googled and found this webpage. However, they did include a link to remove me from the distribution list and an address in Chicago at the bottom. It's funny since I am an Engineer and not really looking to get into sales.

Has anyone noticed that Rhonda Vierra and Jason Lamberts Blogs are identical? It could be a plant by the company itself or someone with multiple personalities. You decide. However, judging by some of the incoherent ramblings I'm reading here, I gather most of you don't believe in the saying "nothing ventured nothing gained". I have been in retail sales for 20 years and can smell bullshit a mile away. I'll see what "Bankers" is trying to peddle and draw my own conclusion. If you don't see another post from me, its because I'm working for "Bankers". Thank you and goodnight.

Look at the message from RHONDA VIERRY and JASON LAMBERT. They are exactly the same! Plus "T"'s comment says it all. After researching this some more, I am 100% sure: THIS IS A SCAM!!! STAY AWAY!! DO NOT REPLY!! MARK AS SPAM IN YOUR MAILBOX!!!

simon baggins on February 3, 2008 4:44 AM

I'm very glad I found this website. I was about to schedule an interview with them for next week. I received the "Thanks for your resume" email but never applied with them.

Hey Simon Baggins. If you could read properly you would see that Jason Lambert Posted twice, Rhonda said something completely different...therefor you are an idiot!

I am a career agent that's been with Bankers Life and Casualty for a year now. I won't lie to you it hasn't been easy and it's not for everyone. Give it a shot and you may be in the 90% that fail but if you make it the income potential is unlimited.

The reason we have so many recruiters working full time to find new recruits is because most people don't make it and we are a growing company.

Chris CLTC on June 24, 2008 4:42 PM

I am desperately searching for a job. Since I am progressively becoming more desperate I applied to to scam artist jobs. One is called world access marketing the other was this. My first experience in the "professional" world is turning me into a bit of a misanthrope. I went to the interview noticed some subtle strange things, mostly it seemed like a legit job. I have decided tonight to avoid the second interview because of the law suits filed against the company for using misleading paper work to scam the elderly out of money they could use for funeral costs and the ability to help their families after their death (their life insurance). This on top of the fact that so many people have stated that the company takes advantage of their employees is scary. If anyone knows a good job for a recent college with a double major in psych and Spanish please send me an email. Thanks for this blog, its things like this that help restore my faith in the human race. BANKERS CONSECO IS BAD they are sick people scamming the elderly for revenue using the tiniest portion of it pay employees who are being fooled by dreams of big commissions no salary and no life. It is our responsibility as citizens of the united states to tell as many people we know THESE PEOPLE SCAM EVERYONE.

I really hate this stuff I need a job but not one that scams the elderly and their own employees

Thanks all for the insight---Im in Houston and got the same letter-----Being a Boomer, i want a job but this sounds BAD-i will not waste my time.

Here is the e-mail I received July 18, 2008, I was going to apply till, I found this site and my resume is all about cust ser, I never understood why I get these emails.

I am just laughing over all the "scam" controversy in this blog. My husband has been employed by them since 1996 and we are so lucky to have found this same ad in a newspaper. It is all true, if you want to work for it. If people spent as much time working and learning in this field as they did reading this junk they might be on their way to a better life!

I am a pre-contract agent with BL&C. I have sat in on several weekly meetings in the local office, met with corporate higher-ups, and have been formally introduced into the company and what it's all about. Hard work, determination and a willingness to take risks are required to make the money the emails speak of, but I can honestly say that Bankers Life is a legit company.

I agree with DishDiva - This is a legit company/opportunity. There is no easy way to earn the income potential specified in the recruiting emails. Any commission only position is going to be difficult and require lots of hard work and perseverance (along with a little luck) in order to be successful.

I worked briefly for Bankers and they are a huge scam. They do not offer any training and if you do not sell fast enough for them they fire you. As an independent agent this is illegal, but they do it anyway. I did make it past the certain amount of policie, but also got tired of telemarketing and being told that 80 phone calls a day was not enough. I left the company 5 months ago and just got a letter from them telling me I owe them 468.00 dollars. DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY. They promise the world and deliver nothing. They dont care who they hire or fire. I made 1500 in 5 months and worked my butt off. DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do not let anyone you know buy from this company ever.

Every single person that claims this is a scam has absolutely no idea what they are talking about. This is a tough job for people that want a chance to have a great career. Hard word. Lots of phone calls. Lots of sales calls. Lots of patience. Lots of time and personal expense (gas and wear and tear). Did I say lots of hard work? Put your fears and inhibitions behind you, suck it up, roll up your sleeves, and go to work. And work. You'll make it. This job has more potential than most people can hope for in a straight 9 to 5 job. You CAN make money. Good money. The rest of you that don't know what you are talking about, shut the f up!

The postings on this site are HELLarious...some true...some false...some just made by angry folks that weren"t willing to put the time and effort in...i work there and as in any profession-it has its negs and pos...YOU are in control of how you make money with this company...It's a career change. It DOES NOT rip seniors off! INDIVIDUAL SCAMMER AGENTS rip seniors off! If presented/sold with legit SUITABILITY and PURPOSE than folks will be well-covered and won't cancel. Hence the "fact finder". Use it. If you are just out to sell sell sell and make your commission than karma will catch up with you both financially and personally. Every day has it highs and lows...it's how you handle the situation. I have advised folks to NOT take a certain coverage based on their financial/personal situation and have earned TRUST and RESPECT from them...not to mention REFERRALS. Which are HUGE in this business.Take this from a "newbie" that has witnessed and experienced all the negative posts listed above but has risen above it and made a decision to persevere. As always. Oh-and I have never worked in the Insurance industry nor worked solely commission-based.

Live Well, Laught Often, Love Much

The funniest thing to watch is you dumb asses saying the email is a scam. It obviously is not, because of the above comments that support that this company does exist. Furthermore, have any of you ever worked a day in you life? Your compensation is directly related to what you put in it. I work for Bankers and this is not a job suitable for people who want to get paid for sitting on your asses, those of you whom want to get paid the big bucks for your hard work and dedication, reply to the email, the rest of you, GO WORK AT MCDONALDS!!!

How can a 130 year old company be a scam????? You up above... get your 9 to 5 job making the owners of the company rich while you die broke... like most of the retired folks I talk to... yours truly, Bankers Insurance Agent LMAO

I'm about to interview, I have a strong medical background and it was implyed to me that that this was not a sales position, but I don't know now. Qustion...Does anyone know about ANY entry level positions with Bankers that is NOT a sales position????

Thanks
Glenn

Ladies and Gentlemen
I received a phone call from a Individual ( I will respectfully not give the name) yesterday. He stated he saw my resume on monster.com and would like to meet with me regarding an amazing job opportunity. I noticed that he seemed very suspicious he did not say it was insurance till the end of the call. I let him know insurance sales isn’t something I would be happy doing. “No I’m looking at your resume and you would be a manager” he said attempting to hang on before I dismissed the call. Jennifer praise God that your husband is doing well financially. You make a good point; hard work does pay off, but at what price?

It’s true they are crooks
Complaint Rating:
I worked for BKC for two years, I personally saw or hear every excuse possible made to clients when it came time to get benefits paid. I emailed, sent registered mail, got home office people names and supervisor's assurances, things were being handled.

Ya, you guessed it, it dragged on, and on.

You name the excuse, the clients heard it. It took the insurance commissioner to get one client paid and LTC claim. I personally know a client that is currently getting the run-a-round about getting his LTC policy paid that he has been paying on for 15 years. It's been 9 weeks and still no money, even when the client has a two week elimination period. A field manager stated, "You pay the first two weeks, and then Bankers pays." Well, the money has run out, the help had to let go and Bankers is still reviewing the case! I could write more, but it almost too much to be true... One word - Beware!
I found this article at http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/bankers-life-and-casualty-c82679.html

The employees come last, priority-wise, with pay and advancement opportunity while senior management is very well-compensated with salaries and sign-on bonuses. It's a sweatshop for the rest of the people...little to no work-life balance. Close to impossible if you're a working mom. Get ready to put in a lot of extra hours twice a month, at quarter-end, and at year-end. The exempt (salaried) employees are just expected to work these extra hours without compensation (no pay, no comp time). Non-exempt employees who earn very little to begin with are paid for the overtime.

When I read people inquiring I found that the majority of Bankers Life employees had the tendency to get very nasty toward bloggers. Jennifer at the end of her message states “The rest of you that don't know what you are talking about, shut the f up!” The employees I came across are defensive and full of anger.
I found this article at http://www.enthalpy.net/archives/000039.html

Selling insurance is not a scam. Selling is not for everyone. I was a recruiter for the US Army and try selling something that is intangible. It was not that easy. US Army recruiting is sales and they use probably the same programs the civilian sector uses. I can tell you that when I was reassigned after my 3 years in recruiting my stats were:

320 cold phone calls to generate 24 appointments which led to 1 person enlisting.

So don't call it a scam. SALES is not the easiest way to make money unless you invest a lot of time. In recruiting it takes 12 months to get your name recognized in the community and then it usually, not always, gets easier.

Sounds like a lot of people who don't want to work hard to make a honest living. For those of you who are complaining, don't do sales as a career then, apparently you don't have what it takes.

Go serve coffee at Starbucks they are always hiring!
