Brilliant Song

I usually like music that is about being sad, depressed, or isolated, but kudos to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah for making a song about being different that is highly uplifting and totally happy. Even cooler is that he uses a crackely sounding voice that really emphasis the point and purpose of the change and hope in the song.

The Skin Of My Yellow Country Teeth

Once - The dogs have quit their barking
"Son," - my neighbor said to me.
"Know the emptiness of talking blue the same old sheep."
Run - I'll do no more this walking
Haunted by a past I just can't see
Anymore
Anymore

But let me tell you I have never planned
To let go of the hand that has been
Clinging by its thick country skin
To my yellow country teeth
To my yellow country teeth

Far - Far away from West Virginia
I - Will try on New York City
Explaining that the sky holds the
Wind the sun rushes in and a child
With a shotgun can shoot down
Honeybees that sting
But this boy could use a little sting

Who - Will get me to a party?
Who - Do I have yet to meet?
You - You look a bit like coffee
And you taste a bit like me
How - Can I keep me from moving?
Now - I need a change of scenery
Just listen to me I won't pretend to
Understand the movement of the wind
Or the waves out in the ocean or how
Like the hours I change softly slowly
Plainly blindly oh me oh my!

They got to be pretty popular pretty quickly with little marketing and just a few good reviews. Crazy that their writer typically writes for 8 or 9 hours a day AFTER work each day.

What are some of your favourite sad songs?

Well some of them are double edged as well ... like the sadness is expressed and then relief and then they are happy. Or something like that.

Here on my own by U.N.P.O.C.

Radiohead stuff is killer
Karma Police
Fake Plastic Trees
Let Down

Hurt by Johnny Cash...make sure you watch that free online video!

Helpless by Neil Young

Nobody Girl by Ryan Adams

I like the song Imagine by John Lennon...which I only find sad due to my pessimism.

What songs do you like Pink?

I love sad songs. Thanks for the list. I just saw the video Hurt by Johnny Cash...wow, intense...

I like Karma Police - Radiohead
Otherside - Red Hot Chili Peppers Lyrics
Wish you were here - Pink Floyd
U2 -One
Natalie Merchant - Seven Years
Sting - Shape of My Heart
My Chemical Romance - The Ghost of You
Eric Clapton - Tears In Heaven
Pink - Family Portrait
Cranberries - Zombie

I haven't heard Helpless by Neil Young or Nobody Girl by Ryan Adams yet.

Those two are must listens ;)
ESPECIALLY Helpless :) :) :)

I like most ur songs as well.

I have never thought of Otherside as being sad...one song by RHCP that I sorta do consider sad is "Could Have Lied"

I love One by U2 and Wish You Were Here.

I have yet to hear
Sting - Shape of My Heart
My Chemical Romance - The Ghost of You

I guess I have song interpretations of my own, and Otherside reminds me of the time I wanted to die.
I'll defitnitely listen to Helpless soon :-*

wow... I never read / understood all the lyrics to Otherside. the slit my throat bit is a bit forward. I saw them live once and they played Soul to Squeeze. I love that song.

Sorry to hear you once wanted to die. Glad that changed though. Else I would have no secret admirer who likes cool music ;)

I'm not sure right now, as I am going through a court proceeding. My next court hearing is at the end of this month, and hopefully things will get settled a bit, but I really doubt it.

court sucks :(

best of luck with that
